Fabulous Fall Must Makes

Hey Sew Long Summer sewers!  Here we are, in the last week of the sew along.  I cannot believe how quickly it has flown by.  I hope you all have been enjoying it as much as I have.  For this week, I am looking ahead to fall and all the fabulous things I want to sew up for the season.  So so many things, so many.  Pinterest, of course, is my go to source of inspiration and organizational planning for all the things.  Here are the top 5 items on my Fall 2015 board so far.

Sequin Blazers

sequin blazer

This is at the top of my list and next in line to be made.  Have you seen this trend? I think the Morris Blazer from Grainline Studios is the perfect pattern for this look.  I also have some great solid black sequin fabric that I got from the fabric sale at work early this summer. Since I have the fabric and I have the pattern, now it is just a matter of being able to take the time to do it.

Duffle Coat

After making Eric an Albion duffle coat this past winter I have grown quite fond of the style.  When I bought the fabric for Eric’s version I also picked up this amazing army green wool for myself.  I didn’t have a solid plan for it other than some sort of coat.  I am absolutely sold on making a version of the Albion for myself.  Luckily, Sarai posted a great sew along with tips on converting the pattern to fit a woman’s body.  I am on the hunt for the lining now.  I want something fun, funky, and floral.  I imagine something with shades of army green, dusty lilac and dusty rose pink.

Colored Jeans

This one has been on my must make list for over a year now.  To be fair, I did make a red pair last year for the Fabric Mart Fabricista challenge last year.  I have yet to wear them because I put them in my UFO pile to sew on belt loops and never touched them.  I need to finish them. NEED TO!  Other than that, I want to make the highly praised Ginger Jeans from Closet Case Files out of a dusty rose pink stretch denim I purchased earlier this year.  Last year I did a lot of pink and gray, and I am still in love with this color combo, so pink jeans with some of the gray tops I made last year sounds divine!

Button Ups

I really really need some button ups in my wardrobe.  Like really need them.  I don’t own a single one.  How can I not have one you wonder?  Well, a big busted girl, such as myself, tends to have trouble finding one that fits that area.  Normally they are too tight causing them to pull open.  So not flattering!  The new Sewaholic Granville Shirt looks amazing, plus an FBA does amazing things.  I have some chambray in the stash to try this out with and if that works we will see what other fabrics I can come up with for some other unique button ups that are not plain white.

Fall Dresses

I live in dresses during the summer and I love every minute of it.  I want to continue this love into the fall.  Dresses with tights, boots, cardis, and scarves sound amazing.  On the upshot, I have everything in my wardrobe, except the clutch, to make my own version of the black dress outfit for fall.  I am pretty excited about it.  A chambray dress, much like a chambray button up, has been on my sewing list for a bit too.  Then the Jasper Sweater dress from Paprika Patterns kept popping up on my Pinterest and Bloglovin’ feeds and it was love at first sight.  This pattern looks so warm and comfy, like wearing secret pajamas.

What have you made or are planning on making for fall?

  2. I’m hoping that I have time to get to a button down or two thus fall. All of mine are currently too small in the bust! But I want to get through my short list for the Fall Essentials Sewalong first.

I use Pinterest to make all kinds of sewing plans. I started my fall sewing early this year. I already have a Jalie drop pocket cardigan, Matilda leggings, and long sleeve Tonic 2 tee done. I still have a Burda jacket in faux leather, another pair of leggings, and maybe a Jenna Cardigan on the list. We’ll see how fast winter hits before I scrap the plan and want to bury myself in fleece.
