Day 90: Happy Easter

Today I wore one of my new favorite scarves!  I got it last fall in Targets clearance and have been dying for spring to get here so I could wear it.  The colors are just divine!

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Easter with their families! Eric and I had Easter dinner with his parents today.  So good.  Has anyone else read this article on Rage Against The Minivan?  I completely agree with the needing to tone down the holiday festivities idea!  Some things have just gotten to be too much.  As such I do look forward to the days when we will have small children and Easter will bring Easter egg hunts and baskets and crying pictures with the Easter Bunny.  When I was growing up we never made Easter a Christmas like present filled celebration that it is becoming.  We got a basket typically filled with a coloring book,a stuffed animal and a chocolate bunny.  We did an Easter egg hunt at my Grandparents house with plastic eggs filled with jelly beans.  That was it!  None of this leaving carrots and treats for the Easter Bunny and the bunny hiding the eggs business.  I think a little celebration is fine for younger children so long as they know why these are holidays to begin with.

Day 89

Today’s outfit includes my black and white gingham Oonapants.  Unfortunately, they look gray in the picture.  I am still very much in love with these and need to make some more.  I also wore a new totally awesome necklace.  I will be doing a giveaway starting on Monday for either a necklace just like this one or another sewing machine necklace I will be wearing then.  So stay tuned for the details on that!

Eric and I got to babysit our nephews today!  Boy are we tuckered!  Big Brother is 4 and Little Brother is 1.  Talk about energetic!  We had a pretty good time.  Eric and Big Brother played Batman and Robin.  Eric was of course Robin!  Little Brother and I watched some Curious George. All in all it was a pretty good day!

Day 88: Stop and smell the roses

I cannot believe that March is almost over!  I am a quarter of the way through this project already!  The year is just flying by and I am not sure how I feel about that.  Eric and I already have several things planned out for the next six months which are just going to fly by as well!  I am definitely going to have to make time to stop and slow down for a bit.

Tonight’s projects include my possible tutorial experiment and working on test sewing Mari’s Avocado Hoodie.

Day 87

Since I could not find new skinnies yesterday I decided to get new leggings.  I got a gray pair and a black pair, plus a pair of hot pink footless tights!  They are awe-some!  Tomorrow I have an interesting idea that I want to test out.  In fact, I have been wanting to try this for a few months now and just haven’t gotten around to it.  I am hoping it works out well because I want to write a tutorial for it.  Just to tease you, it involves white cotton, dye and paper doilies.

Day 86

Do you know what I did today?  I ripped  the thigh out of my only pair of skinny jeans.  So naturally, I decided to go to Target after work to get a new pair.  Do you know that they only carry skinny jeans in neon and pastel solid colors or crazy reversible prints?  Neither did I.  Is is just because of spring coming that they are not stocking normal denim skinny jeans?  Needless to say,  I left without new jeans.  I did, however, drive directly to Jo-Ann’s to look at their denim selection.  They also only have brightly colored denim that has some stretch to it.  All their regular denim has no stretch what so ever and is not nearly dark enough for my preference.  I think tomorrow will include a trip to Kohl’s and JCP.  Anyone have any suggestions on where I can get some good normally colored skinnies?

For now I need to go work on a few different projects including my newest sponsored garment and my nautical swap item.

Day 85

Pretty typical work day!  Pretty typical work outfit today!  Over the weekend we received another sponsor donation!  I am excited to announce that the current theme I am working on is “Love Conquers All”.  How fun is that?  It is definitely a challenge to get this one right.  Eric suggested  I dress as a Roman Conqueror.  I said no to that idea but I do have another that I am working on.

Day 84: Snow Day

This morning I spent an hour outside shoveling the driveway and my car out from what will hopefully be the end of winter weather.  I got inside to find a text that said work was closed for the day.  So I let the snow pile back up.  It has not stopped snowing yet today! Ugh! This is the second outfit I put on today!  I really almost had a cheater day that involved lounge pants with a hoodie over top the dress.  Then I decided I was cheating myself if I did that and changed, even though I really just wanted to lay around the house on my snow day!

Since I was up this morning, I built this awesome blog button for anyone who sponsors the Adoption Dress Project for a day!  When you donate $10.00 through the Paypal donation button on the right you will get to pick my clothing theme for the day and I will send you the code for this awesome button!  Please consider helping out our cause and reading our story of why we are adopting.

Day 83: I thought it was spring

I don’t know about you all, but here in the Midwest we are getting hit with what will hopefully be the last of winter.  We are under a winter weather advisory until noon on Monday and expected to get 6-8″ of snow here in my area of Indiana.  We got about an inch or so this morning and the snow has stopped for the moment but it is definitely coming again tonight.  :(  So, to brighten my mood and because I have been ready for spring for weeks now I am wearing some crazy hot pink zebra leggings.  Custom made by me of course.  These are actually a prototype pattern that I made for work.  There are very similar to the pattern that I drafted for my own version of Oonapants only they do not come up as high on the waist and the have extra length added to the ankles for varying heights.  These are some very very noticeable leggings!

Going to bed last night I kept wondering how I was going to top yesterdays outfit for today.  I decided that I probably couldn’t because it was just too much fun, but maybe these would be equally as fun. Guess what! I think they are!  Unfortunately, I am not going anywhere today because I don’t want to drive in the snow and I do not need to buy anything at Jo-Ann’s, regardless of the 25% off total purchase coupon they sent me that expires today.  See, I do have will power!  Instead, I am going to spend the day trying to finish the chiffon tunic/dress I started last weekend that I have been putting off.

Oh and one last thing,  the rainbow skirt is listed in the Bows for Adoption shop!!! Check it out and feel free to pin it or any of the other items listed!

Day 82: Somewhere over the rainbow

Today is sponsored by the totally awesome Gillian of Crafting a Rainbow! The theme she gave me was rainbows and I think I may have nailed it!

Post and picture removed for personal reasons. :(

Oh and speaking of today…

I totally got to hang out with Leila of Three Dresses Project!!!  We had a blast.  First we went fabric shopping at The French Seam of course!  I tried to be good and only get a couple of things.  First the spotted elastics you see are a yard each and meant for a certain little niece who turns three next month and is probably in desperate need of some new tutus. Even though I just made her three for Christmas, I am sure that I really do need to fill a hole or two in her tutu wardrobe.  Alas, the two remnants are amazingly soft pieces of wool and will be used to make Eric some new vests.  The top plaid is 1 3/8 yds which is more than enough for a vest, but I kind of want to use it to make myself a pair of shorts for fall. Sssh…don’t tell Eric.  The second smaller houndstooth is only 3/4 of a yard and will be perfect to make a vest out of.  That was the extent of my shopping, even though I totally wanted to go to the Super Jo-Ann’s after playing in Leila’s stash bins.  They have stuff that my Jo-Ann’s doesn’t and I was definitely drooling over the amazing pieces in her stash.  Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures of us at the store.  I even brought my camera so I could because I am always so envious of all you NYC sewcialists that meet up at Mood and shop together.  I am looking at you Oona, Peter, Carolyn, Sonja, Wanett and Suzanne.

Anyways,  after shopping and lunch we went back to Leila’s house where we recorded a podcast!  This is my first ever podcast and it was much less scary than I had made it out to be in my head.  You see, I think I sound like a total goober when I listen to playback and don’t even get me started on how awkward I look on camera.  But it was actually a lot of fun and I look forward to letting my husband listen to it.  Also her family is super adorable!  I wanted to take her kids home with me they were so stinking cute!  We did take a couple of pics together at her house just so I can prove to my husband that my sewcialist friends are real!

Just for your viewing pleasure here are some more shots of my skirt in action.  It is great for spinning.

Have a happy rest of the weekend and hopefully you won’t get snowed in tomorrow like I am going to be.

Day 81

For those of you with a keen eye, yes, this shirt is on backwards! If you recall, when I originally made the shirt the sequins went on the back.  But I have already worn this shirt the correct way, over top the dress, and it I wore it underneath you wouldn’t get to see the awesome sequins!  So backwards wins!  Best part, you cannot really tell it is backwards.  I can because it keeps wanting to slide down, but my coworkers couldn’t. So score one for me!

Just wait for tomorrow!! I made my rainbow themed garment while at work today and it is nothing short of epic!  Best part is tomorrow I will be meeting up with Leila from Three Dresses Project to go fabric shopping and record a podcast, so I get to wear this ridiculousness of a skirt out in public!  People are going to straight think I am crazy or escaped from the circus.  Either way it is sure to get some attention and be fun.
