I have not done a lot of sewing for myself or others this year, partly because sewing is my day job now. As a result, I did not have a lot of options to pick a top 5 from. But it was fairly easy to pick a top 5 from what I did make.
1. Sierra Mist Dress
Easily one of my most favorite dresses I have ever made! The pattern is a TNT, but with a different bodice that I now prefer. The fabric is why I love this so much though. It is definitely one of those stand out and be noticed prints, which is so not something I would normally do. However, this one has changed my mind and I will be doing quite a few more stand out and be noticed prints in 2013.
This was initially a dress that I was dying to make when I got this fabric in February. But once I started I had some major problems and was really disappointed when I thought it wasn’t going to work out. Thankfully I tried a couple of different things that made all the difference. I lived in this dress and the Sierra Mist dress all summer long.
3. Spice Bazaar Top
This top was made for one of the Sew Weekly challenges where location was the theme. I have had this fabric in my stash for years but could not bring myself to cut it. Not because it was real silk chiffon or expensive, but because I loved the print so much I wasn’t sure what pattern suited it. I am glad I went with a TNT pattern for this.
This top was made back in April. I was very unsure of it all while sewing and the first couple of times I wore it. I wasn’t sure that I liked that the sleeves were different, the color combination or the sequins only being on the back of the top. But I can tell you now that this is one of my favorite tops in my wardrobe. I have gotten so many compliments on it that I will be making a different color version for a friend before this year is over.
5. Bow Top
I love this top! It fit so well with only minimal alterations. This is definitely going to be a TNT basic for me! Plus, because it is a great basic there are so many different possibilities for embellishment.
There is still a little time left in 2012 that I plan on making a few more things, including the Adoption Dress, but since I won’t be wearing them till 2013 I don’t think it right to include them in this year’s top 5.
