Did anyone else catch this?

These are from the Miss Universe Pageant. I didn’t actually get to see it but I wish I had. I caught this article in my CraftStylish newsletter. In addition to the traditional pageant gowns and swimsuits they had to wear a costume representing their country. Check out these costumes. Some of them look amazing. Above is Miss Great Britain and below is Miss Russia. These are probably my favorite two.
I will say however, I was quite disappointed with Miss USA. It looks like it is a slutty Halloween costume. All the others I saw have so much more glitz going on and this has none of it.

Twofer Tuesday

This weeks twofer is fabric flowers. I want to add some embellishment to the Chanel jacket that I am making. I figure the best way to do this is to add a flower broach. These are two of the possibilities that I am considerings.

The first is a Silk Lotus Flower by Kenneth King. I love the fullness of this flower but I am not sure if this would complement the jacket fabric.

The second is this Legacy Studio Fabric Rose. This project is from the Jo-Ann’s site. If I make this one I will only make one rose and not the bouquet as pictured.

Photo Hunt – Ripples

This weeks theme is ripples. I noticed that while doing the hand quilting part of the double ring quilt it started making these ripples. The quilt is really looking wonderful. While the back may not be the neatest of hand stitching, I still think it will turn out well.

Next weeks theme: Surprise

Twofer Tuesdays

Tuesdays are now going to be Twofer Tuesdays, where I will post things like 2 tips, 2 favorites, etc. Today, I will start this with the two fabrics I am debating between for my Chanel sew along. I am making the orange jacket in the center back row of v7975. The first choice is this buttery yellow plaid boucle. With this fabric I would use a creamy white trim. I love the design and color of this one. I don’t have anything yellow in my wardrobe, which is what draws me to this as well. I am not sure if yellow would work with my skin tone, I am pretty darn pale. I blame it on the Irish in my blood.

My second choice is this pink plaid boucle. With this choice I would use black trim. I love this fabric for the same reasons as the other. I have a few pink pieces in my wardrobe already, but I think this would fit in just nicely.

Both of these are from Fashion Fabrics Club. This is a great site for fabrics. You can get good fabrics for reasonable prices. I think each of these are both under $5.00 a yard! I will be ordering the fabric next weekend. Now I just need to find a place to order the kind of trim I want.

Photo Hunt – Artifical

This weeks theme is artificial. My photo is of my new fabric for my pirate costume. It is supposed to look like leather but it is an alcova suede. I am going to use this fabric to make my corset. It should work wonderfully for that.

Next weeks theme is ripples.

Fashion Friday – Chanel

This week I am covering Chanel! Chanel is such an iconic classic! You can never go wrong when you wear Chanel. A few weeks ago I stumbled across a Chanel sew along blog. It’s called Go Chanel or Go Home. I joined in because I have wanted to work with a boucle fabric for sometime and just have not had a clear vision of what I wanted. When I found the blog I knew what I wanted to do!

This jacket is the epitome of Chanel style. It is from the Spring 2008 collection. For this jacket I am going to use the Vogue pattern below, V7975. I am going to make the orange version in the center back.

I will be making small changes from the Chanel jacket to make my jacket. I am not going to put in the breast pockets the Chanel version has. My colors will also be reversed, black jacket with cream trim. Instead of button closures I am going to use extra large silver hook and eyes. I have not started this yet but you can follow along or sew along with me and others at the Chanel blog.

Also, check this out. This advertisement was in my September issue of Harper’s Bazaar. If I had the time and money I would so totally do this.

Photo Hunt – Low

This weeks theme is low.
These are my thread spools that I need to replace.

Next weeks theme is Artificial

Photo Hunt – Entertainment

This weeks photo hunt theme is entertainment. My photo is from when I was cutting out the lining for my pirate coat. I was watching Dark Shadows. I absolutely love this show. It is a 60’s supernatural soap opera. It is just fantastic. I have been going through the series thanks to Netflix.

I was able to get a few pics of the pirate coat on my husband last night. He was not a very willing subject. The coat still needs to be hemmed and the buttons and button holes. The main body of the coat is a brown cotton twill. The cuffs, pocket flaps and back godet are an olive green moleskin. The lining, pictured below, is an Asian brocade.
He still has not decided which buttons to go with. This is my preference. They are 1″ leather bound shank buttons. I found them here.
